"FOR ME THE VOICE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE GREATEST INSTRUMENT"
Terence E Jackson creates projects that take into consideration the fact that we live in the age of portable sound devices.

God Bless The ChildSo much of what I learned as a child about using the voice as an instrument comes from listening to lots and lots of race records as they were called from the 20's and 30's and Billie Holiday. I literally fell love with her and that romance hasn't waned. Here is my humble attempt to vocalize what she means to me. This piece is offered as a free download. Enjoy!
The Black (k)Night
One of three musical works I have been working on in 2011. This one is a remix album of music that never was. 'Precious' takes various haiku and long form poems that I had originally created in the 1980's & reimagines them as songs. The album 'Precious' is slated for a 2012 release.
Paper Doves (I Won't Be Coming Back This Way Again)This was one of those break-up poems one rights in youth. The challenge in converting it into a song was how to convey the mixture of sadness and relieve one experiences when coming to the realization that one has learned the lesson; That sometimes it is better to move on, then to stay. Creating it brought back the scent of lost love.

Cotton Candied KissesIn 2010 I started work on compiling many of my instrumental tracks for an album yet to be named. Somewhere within that thought process I went back into the studio and suddenly discovered all these new tracks waiting patiently for me to record them. 'Cotton Candied Kisses' was one of the first one's to come. - The album is called 'Existential'. It is the second of three projects due out in 2012.
Reflection In A Golden EyeThis track is me thinking about the work I was doing with the experimental band - Harper Fragment in the early 90's. The band allowed me to tryout techniques that I still use today in my music. This was such a fun track to create and really speaks to the influence that New Wave & labels like 4AD had on me. From the album - 'Existential'.
Invisible Cities - City No. 3Invisible Cities is the third project I have been working on started as a audio and visual installation piece centered around imagination and our ability to construct places within our mind. It was also intrigued with creating something that could exist separately from one other. The soundtrack for 'Invisible Cities' will be available in 2012.
Row Row Row Your BoatThis song has always meant a lot to me. The first time I ever heard it, I got it! I have tried to brought out the floating on water quality that is within the chorus structure of the song. I have always felt this song was a powerful meditative piece for young and old. A teaching song on how to successfully complete one's journey through life - from the cd "The Instrument."
Children of The FutureI wanted to write a song that would serve as a reminder that consciousness work is never done. The song deals with the fact that our behavior as a child is carried over into our adulthood. We, everyone of us are the children of the future. Therefore as long as we are living and breathing we should seek to do good work for not only mankind but the planet we share - from the cd "The Instrument."
We Are Climbing Jacobs LadderThis song has always stood as a testament to the oppressed everywhere. I sang this song often as a child and my understanding of it has continued to grow with me as I enetered adulthood. When I sing it now I always see images of my ancestors moving in spirit towards freedom - from the cd "The Instrument."

The EndI have always composed music to accompany my performance art. "The End" - is a score for a performance piece I was working on in 1989. In this piece I can be heard playing bells and water bowls. Running time: 10min 11sec.
I am currently working on compiling a cd of just my instrumental scores. This piece is offered as a free download.
When I am working on my material, I try and factor in the fact that more often than not, one will be listening to it on one's personal sound device; usually wearing headphones. So I would definitely call my what I do head Music.
I am trying to create works that are at once beautiful and yet dreamlike. My sound comes from the place of consciousness and unconsciousness. Weaving together multi-layered vocals, ambient soundscapes, experimental arrangements, & cut and paste instrumentation without any regard for classifications.
"In my works the old and the new form a cohesive whole that is at once complete and fresh. I enjoy creating multiple single takes, I then slowly layered one on top of the other. This allowed me to really create organically the songs exactly as I hear them in my head. - It truly is quiet music for all those very public spaces we find ourselves filling."
